BYD Chooses Dubai as Its Next Platform to Break Records in the EV Market
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has announced that Dubai will serve as its next global platform to break new records in the electric vehicle market, underscoring confidence in the UAE’s innovation-driven business environment.
Speaking at the World Governments Summit 2026 in Dubai, BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li revealed the company’s global expansion strategy.
In 2025, BYD sold approximately 2.26 million fully electric vehicles, surpassing key competitors to become the world’s largest EV manufacturer by sales.
Record Performance and Expansion Strategy
Li emphasized that BYD’s success is built on continuous innovation, advanced technology, and large-scale manufacturing capabilities.
The company employs over 120,000 R&D engineers and files around 52 patents daily, reflecting sustained investment in technological leadership.
More than 70% of vehicle components are produced in-house, allowing BYD to navigate global supply chain disruptions without halting production.
Dubai as a Global Launchpad
Dubai’s advanced infrastructure and flexible regulatory framework make it an ideal base for innovation in clean energy and mobility, Li noted.
She hinted at upcoming projects in the region that could set new performance benchmarks in the EV industry.
BYD has been expanding production capacity by roughly 1.3 million vehicles annually over the past three years.
It is also pioneering ultra-fast charging technology of up to 1000 kilowatts, enabling a five-minute charge for a driving range of up to 500 kilometers.
This strategic move reinforces the UAE’s position as a regional hub for electric mobility and future technologies amid intensifying global competition in sustainable transportation.
