UAE Consensus Emerges as a Global Climate Action Benchmark After COP28

Two years after its launch, the UAE Consensus continues to stand as a landmark framework shaping global climate action, having united the international community around a comprehensive vision to address climate change.

The UAE Consensus brought together 198 parties under a shared commitment to practical and unprecedented measures covering emissions reduction, climate adaptation, and sustainable financing for a low-carbon transition.

Through the UAE Consensus, countries agreed to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030, double energy efficiency, curb deforestation, and prioritize the protection of vulnerable communities most affected by climate impacts.

Beyond Negotiations: Tangible Outcomes

The outcomes of COP28 extended beyond negotiations, marking a historic milestone with the establishment of a fund to address climate-related loss and damage, implemented for the first time within the COP framework.

Private Sector Mobilization and Climate Finance

The conference also succeeded in mobilizing the private sector through initiatives such as the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter, bringing together companies representing nearly 40% of global oil production to cut methane and carbon emissions.

Additionally, the launch of the Alterra Fund, the world’s largest climate-focused investment fund, aims to mobilize $250 billion by 2030 to scale global climate solutions.
